Ely Runner Hugh Burton was 64th of 419 finishers in 1:10:37 on an undulating course and in windy conditions.

THORNEY 10K MIXED TERRAIN RACE, SUNDAY 19th MARCH 2006

 
Ely Runner Alan Rutterford was 58th of 140 finishers in 45:49 on a new fast and flat course. Conditions were cool (6C), overcast, and breezy.

MONDI 15 MILES ROAD RACE, MARCH, SUNDAY 12th MARCH 2006

Three Ely Runners were among the 1,825 finishers in this popular race on a course of gently undulating roads and cycle paths around Milton Keynes. Official results:

GRINDLEFORD GALLOP (21 MILES TRAIL RACE), DERBYSHIRE, SATURDAY 11th MARCH 2006

Alex Tate 3rd overall (2nd Senior Man), Ian Day 3rd Senior Man, & Natalle Coles 3rd Senior Woman

Six Ely Runners were among the 187 finishers on a tough 21 miles circular course of footpaths, farm tracks and open fields through the picturesque Derbyshire peak district national park including the grounds a Chatsworth house. The run included several difficult climbs the hardest being the 800 ft assent at 15 miles from the village of Baslow to Cubar edge. Alex Tate lost over a mile due to a course error and would otherwise probably have won. Official results:

Ely Runner MV45-49 Keith Mitchell was 61st of 178 finishers in 2:30:31. Conditions for the undulating rural course were cold and clear.

There were 20 Ely Runners among the 360 finishers in this 6th and final event of the 2005-06 series. The undulating 5 miles course was on roads and tarmac paths around the suburbs of Huntingdon. Another strong turnout enabled Ely Runners to win both the event and the 17 club League by 1 point from Cambridge & Coleridge AC. Alex Tate distinguished himself by finishing 2nd overall. The first 10 to finish, including at least 2 women, make up the scoring team but all finishers can influence the overall result. Eric Drury was Team Manager. BURY ST EDMUNDS 20 MILES & NEARLY 10 MILES ROAD RACES, SUNDAY 26th FEBRUARY 2006

Fran Crawford 3rd FV50 and Personal best for John Crawford & John Crisp

There were four Ely Runners amongst 368 finishers in the 20 Miles and three amongst the 127 finishers in the 'Nearly 10' (9.4 miles) races which started on soft grass from Nowton Park. Both courses were undulating and the 20 miles race had long and steep hills at 9 and 18.5 miles. The routes followed rural roads and lanes south of Bury St Edmunds through picturesque Suffolk countryside.

BELVOIR CHALLENGE 15 & 20 MILES, SATURDAY 25th FEBRUARY 2006

Natalle Coles 3rd Female & Adam Etches 4th Male

Two Ely Runners were amongst the 609 finishers in the 15 miles (unofficially 16 miles) walk/run through the Belvoir Estate in rural Leicestershire. The undulating route was along footpaths, byways, tracks and minor roads.

ENGLISH NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS, 12,000M, PARLIAMENT HILL, SATURDAY 25th FEBRUARY 2006

Two Ely Runners were among the 1,289 finishers on a tough, hilly and muddy two lap course around Parliament Hill on Hampstead Heath.

Personal best for Steve Tovey

Two Ely Runners were amongst the 1,384 finishers who competed on mainly traffic free roads through the scenic safari and deer park. The one lap course was gently uphill for the first 5k and gently downhill for the next 4k with two small hills in the last 1k.

There were five Ely Runners among the 563 finishers in this popular preparation race for the London Marathon. Competitors travelled the length and breadth of the country to compete on the hilly, challenging course, taking in pleasant rural lanes of four of England most scenic counties; South Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Claire Willer 1st Woman with new club record, Alex Tate 3rd Man, Ely Runners win and move up to 1st team overall

There were 20 Ely Runners among the 356 finishers in this 5th event of the 6 race 2005-06 series. The undulating 5.1 miles course was on firm woodland tracks and soft paths. Another strong turnout enabled Ely Runners to win the event and move up from 2nd to 1st team of 17 teams in the League prior to the final event at Huntingdon on 5th March. It was the 3rd time in 4 years that Ely Runners had won the Bourne Woods venue. Claire Willer distinguished herself again by finishing 1st woman. The first 10 to finish, including at least 2 women, make up the scoring team but all finishers can influence the overall result. Eric Drury was Team Manager. MIDLAND COUNTIES CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS, LEAMINGTON SPA, SATURDAY 28th JANUARY 2006

Second claim Ely Runner William Clapp was 101st of 376 finishers in 47:33 on a 12 km course of three and a bit laps. It was mainly flat but with one sharp ascent and decline and one knee deep muddy puddle. Conditions underfoot were heavy and the weather was cold and still.


REGIONAL ORIENTEERING EVENT, CLUMBER PARK, NOTTS, SUNDAY 22nd JANUARY 2006

Robert Campbell 1st on MV40 Course

Ely Runner Robert Campbell was 1st on the MV40 course in the first orienteering event of the year. His time was 64.08 for the 10.6k course which was over fast, fairly level forestry with partial clearings. There are three grades of events - district, regional and national. The latter two qualify for overall 'ranking' points.

FOLKSWORTH 15 MILE ROAD RACE, SUNDAY 22nd JANUARY 2006

Seven Ely Runners were among the 442 finishers in this popular pre-London Marathon race of two 7.5 mile laps. The course had two significant hills per lap, the worst being at 6.5 miles and again at 14 miles. Official results:

Ely Runners were represented by 7 first claim members amongst the 95 finishers who competed on a 6.3 mile route of 4 variable loops around Priory Park. The gently undulating course was quite testing, being on soft parkland turf with some muddy woodland paths. Official results:

DEVON COUNTY CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS, EXETER, SUNDAY 15th JANUARY 2006

Second claim Ely Runner William Clapp was 16th of nearly 100 runners in 40:15 on a four and a half lap course of about 10.2 km. Conditions underfoot were heavy and deteriorating in the rain.


NELSON HANDICAP HALF MARATHON, NEW ZEALAND, SUNDAY 15th JANUARY 2006

Two Ely Runners were among the 142 runners and walkers competing on an out and back course along the Maitai River Valley Road from Branford Park to the base of the Maitai Dam. The winding route was mainly up hill for the first half, partly on road and partly on 6 km of gravel. Handicap starts were staggered according to estimated times and competitors were not permitted to carry watches. Also, there were no distance markers. Official results:

Claire Willer 1st Woman, Alex Tate 3rd Man, Ely Runners 1st team with best score of the season

There were 24 Ely Runners among the 351 finishers in this 4th event of the six race 2005-06 series. The almost level but testing course of 5.16 miles was on soft grass, farm tracks and slippery concrete roads. A strong turnout enabled Ely Runners to finish 1st team with the lowest overall score of the 2005-06 season and improve their overall position from 3rd to 2nd of 17 teams. Claire Willer distinguished herself by finishing 1st woman again. The first 10 to finish, including at least 2 women, make up the scoring team but all finishers can influence the overall result. Eric Drury was Team Manager. CHILTERN CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE, DIVISION 1, STOWE, SATURDAY 7th JANUARY 2006

After 4 races, Claire Willer 2nd overall senior woman

Second claim Ely Runner Claire Willer was 6th senior woman in 26:00 and 1st for her first claim club Watford Harriers. After 4 races, her overall position is 2nd senior woman. Conditions were cold and bleak for the tough and hilly course of about 4 miles.


NEW YEAR NEW 5, COVENTRY, SUNDAY 1st JANUARY 2006

Second claim Ely Runner William Clapp was 8th of 146 finishers in 27:53 on a two and a half lap course of 5 miles of twisting and turning roads. Conditions were cold and still. Despite celebrating the New Year until 3:00 am before the race, his time was only 4 seconds outside his personal best.


 WYMONDHAM NEW YEAR'S DAY 10K ROAD RACE, SUNDAY 1st JANUARY 2006

Two Ely Runners were amongst the 341 finishers competing on an undulating rural course. Results:
