Six Ely Runners were among the 187 finishers on a tough 21 miles circular course of footpaths, farm tracks and open fields through the picturesque Derbyshire peak district national park including the grounds a Chatsworth house. The run included several difficult climbs the hardest being the 800 ft assent at 15 miles from the village of Baslow to Cubar edge. Alex Tate lost over a mile due to a course error and would otherwise probably have won. Official results:

Another strong turnout enabled Ely Runners to win both the event and the 17 club League by 1 point from Cambridge & Coleridge AC. Alex Tate distinguished himself by finishing 2nd overall. There were 20 Ely Runners among the 356 finishers in this 5th event of the 6 race 2005-06 series. The undulating 5.1 miles course was on firm woodland tracks and soft paths. Another strong turnout enabled Ely Runners to win the event and move up from 2nd to 1st team of 17 teams in the League prior to the final event at Huntingdon on 5th March. It was the 3rd time in 4 years that Ely Runners had won the Bourne Woods venue. Claire Willer distinguished herself again by finishing 1st woman. Second claim Ely Runner William Clapp was 101st of 376 finishers in 47:33 on a 12 km course of three and a bit laps. It was mainly flat but with one sharp ascent and decline and one knee deep muddy puddle. Conditions underfoot were heavy and the weather was cold and still.

Ely Runner Robert Campbell was 1st on the MV40 course in the first orienteering event of the year. His time was 64.08 for the 10.6k course which was over fast, fairly level forestry with partial clearings. There are three grades of events - district, regional and national. The latter two qualify for overall 'ranking' points.

NELSON HANDICAP HALF MARATHON, NEW ZEALAND, SUNDAY 15th JANUARY 2006
Two Ely Runners were among the 142 runners and walkers competing on an out and back course along the Maitai River Valley Road from Branford Park to the base of the Maitai Dam. The winding route was mainly up hill for the first half, partly on road and partly on 6 km of gravel. Handicap starts were staggered according to estimated times and competitors were not permitted to carry watches. Also, there were no distance markers. Official results:
