Ely Runner Angela Chapman was 5,041st in a huge field of 9,877 finishers in 1:55:15, a PB by 2:55. The crowded race started and finished at the Madejski Stadium and was won by Simon Kasimili of Keyna in 1:03:35. Conditions were cool and still at first but soon warmed up.

Ely Runner Eric Drury finished the 6.5 km course in 47:26. His time was more than expected due to course arrow markers being vandalised. Conditions were mild and breezy.
CONISTON 14 ROAD RACE, LAKE DISTRICT, SATURDAY 24th MARCH 2007
Ely Runner Ian Green made a last minute decision to enter this 13.875 mile race during a tiring training weekend in Windermere. Despite tired legs, he was 429th of 1,338 finishers in an official time of 1:50:02 but a watch time of 1:48:00, due to starting at the back of the large field. He recommends this tough but scenic race around Coniston water to other runners.
LONDON HALF MARATHON, SILVERSTONE, SUNDAY 18th MARCH 2007
Improving Ely Runner Ian Day had an excellent run in appalling conditions to finish 21st of over 6,000 runners. His time of 1:19:14 was only 10 secs outside his personal best despite the gale force winds, driving sleet, hail and snow. He was still on target for a personal best until the last mile when the worst of the driving hail slowed him down. Even the winner Hendrick Ramaala could only manage 1:06:53, well below his best.

There were 20 Ely Runners among the 389 finishers in this 6th and final event of the 2006-07 series. The undulating 5 miles course was on roads and tarmac paths around the suburbs of Huntingdon. A weaker than usual Ely Runners team finished in 7th place but the club still managed to come 3rd overall of 15 teams in the League. The first 10 to finish, including at least 2 women, make up the scoring team but all finishers can influence the overall result. Eric Drury was Team Manager. Official results:

In the 20m race, improving Ely Runner Ian Day was 5th of 202 runners in 2:04:42, a club MV35 record and PB by over 13 minutes!
Keith Mitchell was 49th in 2:30:53.
In the 10m race, Stephen Pettit was 20th in a PB time of 1:06:27 (1st race since joining Ely Runners) and Colin Doak was 146h of 200 finishers in 1:30:21
The courses were on undulating small roads and country lanes. Conditions were dry but windy in places.
HAWESWATER HALF MARATHON, LAKE DISTRICT, SUNDAY 4th MARCH 2007
Two Ely Runners were amongst the 433 finishers in this out and back scenic course in the picturesque Lake District. The course was undulating with two challenging climbs. Conditions were extremely bad with gusting gale force winds and torrential rain, sleet and snow. Official results:

They arrived at the start with about 15 sacs to spare due to being in a traffic jam between the park gates and start for 45 minutes. There was no time to warm up and they had to pass many of the slower runners before they could get going.
Conditions were wet and cold with strong headwinds on parts of the course.

Emma Greaves 4th woman in her first cross-country marathon
Ely Runner Emma Greaves was 54th (4th woman) of 182 finishers in 4:42:23. A very creditable time for a tough 26.2 miles course which included four long climbs and was very muddy. The weather was bad, being cold with horizontal rain.

Ian Day's first win
Five Ely Runners gave a good account of themselves on an unrelentingly muddy and undualting/hilly course around the Belvoir Estate in rural Leicestershire. One hill was so steep for 30m that it required hands and feet to climb Improving Ian Day was 1st of 432 men, 30 seconds ahead of the 2nd runner. Ian has been training hard for cross-country and this was a well deserved first win. Official results:

Ely Runner Kevin Fox was 66th of 516 finishers in 1:24:45. It was his first race at this distance. The well organised event had a good one lap course of undulating rural roads with two steep hills near to the end. Conditions pleasant for running, being cool and overcast with a light wind.

This series of events includes 15k, 10k and 5k options. Ely Runner Ian Day finished the 15k course 4th of 133 runners in 55:09 compared to the winning time of 50:06. The course was about half woodland tracks/roads and half grass/mud which was wet and sticky. The weather was bright and sunny with a light wind.

The courses were on variable laps (men 4, women 2) around the undulating park with some long stretches of muddy grass and waterlogged/muddy woodland tracks, which made for tough going.
