Race 1 - 10th October 2004, St Neots: There were 20 Ely Runners among the 355 finishers in this first of the six 2004-05 races. The 5 miles course was on gently undulating parkland and woodland paths. Due to injuries and other commitments, Ely Runners had an under strength team but still finished 6th of 17 teams. The first 10 to finish, including at least 2 ladies, made up the scoring team but all finishers influence the overall result. Chairman Peter Gipp was the 1st Ely Runners (20th), closely followed by improving Max D'Ayala (22nd) and Team Captain Torsten Lytken (24th). See the results page. post race recovery at St Neots!! 21st November 2004, Bushfield 12th December 2004, Swavesey 9th January 2005, Ramsey 6th February 2005, Bourne Woods 6th March 2005, BRJ Huntingdon 2003/2004 Season: CHAMPIONS!! Race 6: The final race of the season took place at Huntingdon on 07/03/2004 over a 5 mile course of undulating roads and paths, conditions were cool, damp and overcast. There were 19 Ely Runners among the 272 finishers, and Ely finished a close 2nd behind C&C. Diana Gipp once again finished first female. The normally strong Riverside Runners could only manage a surprising 7th place and finished the series with the same number of team points as Ely Runners, but we had less running points and therefore Ely Runners became 2003/04 Frostbite League Champions. Congratulations to all members who have taken part in the winter series, and let's do it again next year.. Here is how we did it: Race 1: Ely Runners came 4th (540 points) out of 15 teams in an extremely high standard first race of the 2003/04 season. There were 290 finishers in the 5 mile race over stone/concrete farm roads and field margins. The club was 150 points behind 1st place Riverside Runners, but only 54 points behind 2nd place Hunts AC and 50 points behind 3rd place C&C. This was the best start to a season we have ever managed, so if we can show last years form over the next few races, a good finish position (maybe even a win) is on the cards. Race 2: Another strong performance and a 2nd place finish (450 points) by the Ely Runners team managed a tremendous improvement on our previous performance and gave winners Riverside a very close call, and something to think about in the remaining four races (races that Ely Runners have performed very well in over the past two seasons). Ely Runners came 2nd overall last season in the series of 6 races, but at this stage were sitting in 7th position, we are currently 2nd. Thanks to Team Manager: Peter Harris. Race 3: We came 3rd, which was a bit of a relief, considering the large number of top Ely Runners who were unable to run. Many thanks to those who did run, including Sue Bethell, Rod Baron and Ray Harding, who were all part of the scoring team that ensured we kept our respectable 2nd place in the league at the halfway point of the season. Next time (Ramsey on 11th January 2004) we have a great chance of winning. Race 4:2nd place at Ramsey and another excellent result, but that win is still annoyingly elusive. Last time it was C&C who excelled and this time it was once again Riverside who pulled out all the stops to score 293. Our men put in the best effort so far this season with both Stephen and Alfredo finishing in the top 10, and new members Chris, Max and Sarah all managed scoring positions. Race 5: 1st place at Bourne Woods. 16 Ely Runners were among 233 finishers over the 5.1 mile mixed terrain course. We finished in 1st place for the first time this season, and Diana Gipp was the 1st female runner to finish. This result reinforces our overall position of 2nd in the league with only one race to go. |
